Replacement Windows

Gilkey Window Company
Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dear Homeowner:

In 1978, Gilkey Window Company was established in Cincinnati, Ohio. At that time, our major sources of windows were the large, national window manufacturers. We also installed custom-made windows from three national brands of replacement windows.

To give our customers the most dependable vinyl replacement windows and service, we started manufacturing our own vinyl window in 1986. We were the first company in Cincinnati to offer a totally fusion-welded window system and the first to offer a window with custom spectrally selective Low E glass. In addition, Gilkey was the first manufacturer in Cincinnati to be rated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) and qualify for the Energy Star® from the Department of Energy.

Gilkey Window Company is recognized nationally as having the uppermost quality vinyl windows in the United States. We currently are located in the Cincinnati, Dayton, Louisville, Lexington, Chicago and now Tampa/Clearwater markets.

I am very proud of my team here at Gilkey Windows, and I guarantee that you will be happy with the work we do for you.

Sincerely,

Mike Gilkey,
President

Whenever necessary, assembly operations are performed by hand, assuring you of quality throughout every inch of your new windows.

Gilkey employees take pride in knowing their products are the best. In our windows we use premium hardware to provide long-lasting durability. Triple weatherstripping offers added thermal protection. Our Teflon-coated screens are made to order.

Craftsmanship

  1. Handcrafted wood frames and window seats for bay and bow windows are custom manufactured to the customer's specifications.

  2. Every pane of glass is custom cut, washed and sealed using a computerized precision glazing system.

  3. A hot-melt butyl system facilitates fast glazing service. The glass panes are sealed tightly and securely creating a strong barrier to hot and cold air transfer.

  4. Fusion-welded corners add strength and stability to the window sash and frame. Gilkey's welding process assures the tightest possible welded bond.

  5. Automated profile cutting assures that gilkey windows are sized to exact dimensions.

Superior Right From the Start

  • Gilkey windows are made from an exclusive, 100% virgin uPVC powder compound that is entirely lead-free. This special compound gives the system better resistance to impact and discoloration.  Our proprietary blend has more Titanium Dioxide and Organic Tin than industry minimum to assure colorfastness and UV protection.
  • Gilkey windows are maintenance-free and will not crack, blister or warp.

The InterceptTM Warm-Edge Spacer System

  • Features a unique, one-piece metal alloy, U-channel design that creates an effective thermal barrier to help decreaseconducted heat loss through the window. Its sealed, one-piece design makes it stronger and better at retaining insulating gas.
  • Under normal weather conditions, I.G. units expand and contract with temperature changes.  In conventional insulating glass units, the sealant (the material that holds the unit together) takes the stress of the flexing.  This can cause seal failure and insulating gas loss.  In an Intercept I.G. unit, the spacer flexes instead of the sealant, so it resists spacer movement and premature sealant failure.

Fusion-Welded Corners

  • Fusion welding provides a more attractive appearance and eliminates the need for adhesives and sealants. There are no imperfections on the completely watertight and airtight surface.
  • Internal walls are also welded for increased overall structural strength.

The Magic of Multichambers

  • Gilkey multichamber profiles have more chambers than any competing product. Transition from hot to cold inside the structure is gradual. The system provides superior thermal insulation and the frame is deformation-proof.
  • The multiple air chambers provide excellent sound abatement.

Rugged Glazing Bead

  • The glazing bead is designed to withstand extreme conditions such as winds of 225 mph. Located inside, the glazing bead provides greater safety and facilitates any glazing replacement.
  • Remember, if the wind can't get in, there's a much better chance your roof will stay on during a severe storm. You, your family and your home are much more protected when the weather turns against you.
  • Manufactured in our local, leading-edge facility which offers 58,000 sf. of showroom, manufacturing, warehousing and administrative space, the Gilkey Custom Vinyl Window offers many styles and uses the System BorealTM window technology. Constructed of uPVC specially compounded for North America, multi-chambered extrusion profile provides superior resistance to temperature extremes. Our glass options include double-pane, triple-pane, argon-filled or krypton-filled to meet your needs. Browse through our selection of styles to choose one that is perfect for your remodeling/replacement needs.

PVC doors are manufactured to perform in the toughest conditions. At Gilkey, we test our doors against the most stringent industry requirements for air and water infiltration, wind-load resistance, ease of operation, forced entry and much more.

Which means you'll have lower heating and air-conditioning costs, easier cleaning and low-cost maintenance, in addition to increased comfort — total performance satisfaction year round, for years and years to come.

    A Word About Safety

Wood-edged doors fail after just one blow; Gilkey Steel-edged door continues to take a battering.

The Gilkey Window Company uses P.H. Tech's frames and Cardinal LG's Sea-Storm glass in our Boreal impact windows. This combination provides the strength and safety to be certified under America's most demanding window performance test--the Dade County Large Missile Impact and Cyclic Pressure Test Protocols.

    The Missile Impact Test

The Missile Impact test tortures a window. To start the test, a 7 foot long two by four was shot straight into the window at 34 miles per hour. And yet, the entire structure held up, frame, hinges, latches, everything. Then a second two by four was sent crashing into the corner. Still, the window refused to yield. That’s not all. After this initial torture, the window was put through an inward and outward wind pressure test with loads of up to 85 pounds per square foot, comparable to winds of 220 miles per hour. Still, Boreal System held tough.

Look your best when the weather doesn't

Today's consumers love the way Gilkey Windows keep the elements out while they seal in comfort. They're watertight. They cut out noise. They save energy. They resist wind load pressure. In fact, they perform the way you wish every window performed.

    What's the best protection?

The Boreal window is one of the first to pass the Dade County structural, Large Missile Impact and Cyclic Pressure Test Protocols in compliance with Miami-Dade/AAMA certification requirements. Operating casement, double hung, single hung, and fixed windows designed by P.H. Tech Inc. with Sea-Storm™ laminated glass and assembled to its specifications withstood impacts in accordance with Protocol PA-201, structural testing as stated in protocol PA-202 and cyclic pressure in accordance with Protocol PA-203.

    Why certification?

In the past century, 23 hurricanes have each caused over $1 billion in damage in the U.S., adjusted for inflation. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew alone blew away over $25 billion in property in South Florida and Louisiana and it could have been worse if the storm had hit Miami directly.

Hurricanes can’t be controlled. However, you can make things less vulnerable by preparing for them.

A home doesn’t have to take a direct hit from a hurricane to be severely damaged. All it takes is the right amount of wind and a weak spot in its construction. Once a building envelope is breached through a broken window, wind may enter the building, uplift forces on the roof may double, and wall suction may increase. Partial or total structural failure can occur.

A new building code came into effect in Florida in March 2002 making Windows and doors the first line of defense. The code seeks to ensure that buildings in high-intensity hurricane areas can withstand the impact of wind-borne debris. Other states may soon follow suit, particularly those subject to very high wind load pressures. Under the new code, windows must be impact resistant or protected by shutters.

    Making windows impact resistant

Storm shutters do offer a solution, but only when in use; they are of no benefit if a home is unoccupied when a storm arrives. It is best to build impact resistance right into windows through the design of the PVC frame, the type of glass used, how the window is anchored, and how the glass is attached to the window frame.

Under the new Florida code, Miami-Dade and Broward counties have the most stringent requirements. They are designated as high-velocity hurricane zones.

Windows and doors must be able to withstand wind speeds up to 140 mph in Broward and 146 mph in Miami-Dade. They must also successfully resist penetration in large missile impact tests and withstand inward and outward pressures one-and-a-half times those normally specified.
