Vinyl, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), can be rigid or flexible; opaque or translucid; bright or pale; colored or plain white. These features are obtained from the use of plastifiers, stabilizers, pigments, among other additives used in the vinyl formulation. It is non-toxic, solid, resistant, impermeable, stable and a poor fire conductor. These and other qualities make vinyl a multi-purpose product, being used in the manufacture of extremely diverse goods, e.g. windows.

Vinyl is no ordinary material. It is the only plastic matter not completely originated from petroleum. Vinyl contains 57% of chlorine (derived from sodium chloride - plain table salt) and only 43% of ethene, derived from petroleum.

Horizontal Sliding Window

Windows are described by the way that the sash opens. If you are looking at a horizontal sliding window from the outside of the structure and the panel on the left moves and the panel on the right does not, then that window is called XO sliding window.vinyl replacement windows The (X) represents the moving sash and the (O) represents the fixed panel. If a window has three panels and the two edge panels move but the center does not, the window would be called XOX. The specialty is that the sash opens horizontally. The windows utilize rollers on the bottom for better sliding.

Single Hung

This window gently glides vertically. The upper sash is fixed and the vent sash can be removed for cleaning and maintenance purposes.

Double Hung

This window is divided in two main sections. Both sashes can be opened vertically to allow for optimal ventilation. There are two kinds of opening. Either you can slide the two sashes up and down simultaneously or you open the sashes to the inside of the home. The second version is called tilt-in sashes. It is for cleaning both interior and exterior glass surfaces.

Picture Window

That window is designed to not open. It is good to combine with other window types. Often used is the combination with Horizontal slider or Radius Windows.

Casement Window

This window hinges at the jambs when opened. You can open the window completely and it allows maximum ventilation and possible egress.

This window projects out from the house and gives the interior a roomy appearance. It brings sunshine and outdoor views into your living area. An interior shelf accomodates plants and herbs. Side vents slide vertically to provide ventilation.

Circle Top & Special Window

Circle top and special windows are used mostly as fanlight or sidelight, a window above or beside a door. It gives your house a special atmosphere and additional lightness.

Bow Window

These windows are similar to bay windows but incorporate more than three windows. They are jointed in a less dramatic angle.

Bay Window

These windows are ideal for a home with picturesque views and colorful landscaping. Bay windows extend out and comprehend three separate windows.

Radius Casement Window

Radius windows enhance the character of both contemporary and traditional homes. Radius windows can be mulled to nearly any other window style to create dramatic affects. Their arched forms are also perfect for door transoms.

Hopper Window

In contrary to the awning window the sash of this window cranks open on the upper side. This keeps unwanted pests and insects out while the weather resistant surface reduces maintenance and upkeep.

Awning Window

Hinged on the top of the window, awnings tilt out to allow for ventilation and easy cleaning.

aluminium

Aluminium production is a two-stage process. In the first stage crushed bauxite is mixed with hot caustic soda, which dissolves the aluminium oxide. Impurities can be filtered out and the caustic solution is cooled to crystallise the dissolved aluminium oxide into a white sand-like powder. The second stage is the smelting process where aluminium oxide is dissolved in a molten salt bath. A powerful electric current is passed through the liquid that splits the aluminium oxide into aluminium and oxygen. The molten aluminium is drawn off and made into ingots. Four tonnes of bauxite are required to produce two tonnes of alumina, which in turn produce one tonne of aluminium at the primary smelter.

Clear annealed glass or single glazed glass
It is the basic clear sheet of glass. Is usually 3/32” thick. Depending on its thickness clear glass allows about 75 to 92 percent of the visible light to pass through. This characteristic of glass is called light transmittance.

Insulated glass or dual glazed glass Is made up of two sheets of clear annealed glass. The two sheets of glass are separated by desiccant filled metal spacers and sealed with a butyl sealant. Insulated glass reduces the tendency of condensation forming on the room side of the glass.

Low –E
The effect of Low-E is to decreaseradiation heat transfer and at the same time improve the U-value of glazing. They reflect most of the long-wave infrared radiation, transmit most of the visible light and reflect most of the ultraviolet rays which can damage carpets, fabrics and drapes. In the summer Low-E allows most natural light to enter but reflects a significant portion of the heat from the sun. In the winter the heat energy is reflected back inside, lowering the energy costs.

Tempered glass or safety glass
Is treated glass that has been strengthened so that when shattered it breaks into small cubes. It is required as safety glazing in patio doors, entrance doors, shower doors and other hazardous locations.

Obscure glazing
Is frosted glass used for privacy, light diffusion or attractive effects.

Tinted glass
It is made by adding coloring agents to the batch mix. These agents include bronze, gray, green and blue. This kind of glass absorbs heat and reduces the amount of light that passes through the glass.

Because many homeowners like to complement the architectural style of their homes, Malibu Window and Door offers internally installed grids. The grids are placed between the insulated glass and can be arranged into different patterns changing the style of the window. Colonial style grids are the most common. The grids separate the window equally. Diamond style grids create a more retro look with the grids separating the window into diamond shapes. Marginal or prairie grids are also available.

We offer two different kinds of material. Either you can choose between flat grids, the common material or you take sculptured grids, the more extraordinary look. The combination of sculptured grids in the marginal style is especially elegant.

The three basic terms used to express thermal performance of a window are: AAMA Rating, U-Factor and SHGC.

The AAMA Certification Label on a product tells customers that a sample of that product has been verified as conforming to the requirements of AAMA’s requirements through independent laboratory testing and follow-up on-site inspection of the manufacturer's production line. By placing an AAMA certification label on a product, the manufacturer certifies that the labeled product meets the requirements for certification. It provides requirements for air leakage, water penetration, structural strength and forced-entry resistance. Certain material and component requirements are also included. For example, aluminum used in sash, frame or other structural members must be of commercial quality and meet certain alloy and strength requirements.

U-factor (U-value) Is a measure of the rate of heat gain or loss through a material. The U-factor may be expressed for the glass alone or the entire window, which includes the effect of the frame and the spacer materials. U-Factors generally fall between 0.20 and 1.20. The lower the U-factor, the greater a window's resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating value.

Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) Is the ratio of the solar heat gain entering through a window. It is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The lower a window's solar heat gain coefficient, the lower the heat gain, and the greater its shading ability. SHGC can be expressed in terms of the glass alone or can refer to the entire window assembly.
