Ply Mart was established by the Mahaffey family in 1968 in Decatur, Georgia. At the time, our main product was pre-finished plywood paneling - hence the name "Ply Mart". Since that time, Ply Mart's history has been full of innovation and leadership in the Southeastern Building Material Industry.

We were one of the first companies to specialize in a complete line of rough sawn wood sidings. The addition of a unique pre-stained service, hardboard sidings, and a complete line of exterior trim materials made Ply Mart "THE SOURCE" for siding and cornice materials during the 70's and 80's. By 1990 Ply Mart had added metal windows and a door and vinyl replacement windows fabrication plant that produces the finest wood window units and interior and exterior door units available in the market. An insulated glass shop has been added to help our customers comply with new energy codes. Also added, is a complete line of framing materials, architectural millwork, and engineered wood products. The more recent addition Therma-Tru® and Windsor® Windows and doors, as well as other product lines has indeed made Ply Mart a FULL LINE building materials supplier.  

During the late 70's, Ply Mart pioneered the use of ventilated shelving and is now one of the largest dealers of that product in the United States. In addition to supplying and installing ventilated shelving, Ply Mart's Specialty Division has added vanity and custom mirrors, tub and shower enclosures, mirror doors, lock sets, bath accessories, garage doors and other finish items to its line of supplied and installed products. Our Specialty Division also offers custom-manufactured curved stairs. Ply Mart has grown from the little paneling store to a company that employs over 1,000 people. Ply Mart is ranked as one of the top 100 private businesses in Atlanta, one of the top 150 private businesses in Georgia, and one of the top 100 building materials dealers in the Nation.

ABOUT THE OWNERS

Ply Mart's Senior Management team has over 190 years combined experience in the building material industry. This much experience is uncommon for companies of our size and has allowed Ply Mart to continue running a stable business since 1968. The following is a brief synopsis about each member of the team:

Randy Mahaffey - CEO Randy serves as president of Ply Marts, Inc. Randy, who founded the company with his brothers Tom and Don Mahaffey in 1968, attended Clemson University where he obtained a degree in Medicine. Following his graduation from Clemson, Randy played professional basketball in the ABA for six years. Each off season he would return to Atlanta to help run Ply Mart. Following his pro basketball career he returned to Atlanta full time where he continued to manage various operations within the company. In 1983 Randy assumed the role of president, a position he continues to hold today. Randy is very active in the community and is a member of TEC (The Executive Committee), an organization composed of company presidents who meet once each month.

Tom Mahaffey - VP Purchasing Tom co-founded Ply Mart in 1968. He is originally from LaGrange, GA and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Textile Management. Tom also holds a Masters Degree in Textile Management from Georgia Tech. Tom spent a short time with West Point Pepperell before beginning a career with Ply Mart. His responsibilities include corporate purchasing, distribution, and inventory.

Rich Mahaffey - VP Operations Rich began his career at Ply Mart in 1970 after graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Industrial Management. Rich oversees operations at several of Ply Mart's lumber branches, including Marietta, Newnan, Cartersville, Douglasville, Ellijay, Lagrange, and Image Design Stairs located in Marietta.

Chris Williams - VP Finance

Bill Hofius - VP Sales Bill began his career at PlyMart in 1977 as a shelving installer. After discovering that he was not tall enough to reach the high shelves, Bill requested a transfer to sales. In 1985, he graduated from Kennesaw State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Bill continued his career as an outside contractor salesman until 1994 when he entered into management at PlyMart. Today he is a member of the senior management team, representing sales and operations for the building products division.

Daniel Evans – VP of Human Resources Daniel graduated from North Carolina State University in 1997 with a BA in Management. After graduation Daniel worked for Milliken & Company based in Spartanburg, SC, and joined the Plymart team in 2003. Daniel is a member of White Oak Presbyterian Church in Senoia, GA where he teaches Sunday School to high school students. Daniel is a native of Wilmington, NC and has been married to the former Atlanta native Jennifer Lewis for 8 years. Daniel and Jennifer have two children named Jacob and Sarah.

Chris Mahaffey - Director of Information Technology After graduating from Clemson University with a Bachelors degree in Management and Georgia State University with a Masters in Finance, Chris took a position with Ply Marts, Inc. as the Quality Improvement Coordinator. After holding that position for two years he established and headed up the MIS department for seven years.
