All Weather Windows
— Canada's National Window And Door Manufacturer

By combining a passion for the industry with a customer first philosophy, our partners have been able to guide All Weather Windows from a single 10,000 square foot facility to become Canada’s largest privately owned window and door manufacturer.

Starting in 1978 with just 9 employees, founders Harry Buhler, Gord Wiebe, and Henry Banman, grew their business through honesty, integrity, hard work, and building a reputation one customer at a time.  After just two years, the company had already outgrown their first plant and relocated to a larger 35,000 square foot manufacturing facility to accommodate the increasing sales.  Quickly establishing a name for themselves through quality products and excellent customer service, All Weather Windows made tremendous inroads with building supply dealers and contractors.  So much so, that by 1982 the company opened their first branch office in Winnipeg, followed by a second in Saskatoon in 1984.

In 1985, after just 7 years of operations, the company now had 50 employees and moved to a new head office in Edmonton.  The rapid grown continued unabated, and by 1988, sales had increased ten-fold since the first year of operations.  That same year a Calgary branch office opened, helping solidify All Weather Windows status as the premier window and door supplier in the Alberta market.  Having established a proven track record in the province, the company began to expand westward, penetrating the B.C. market with a Vancouver branch office in 1991.

By 1992, with operations spanning western and central Canada, the company was restructured with founding partner Harry Buhler becoming CEO, and Gord Wiebe becoming President.  The executives established the vision of becoming the preeminent vinyl replacement windows and door supplier in Canada, with operations coast to coast.  To achieve this vision, they sought to expand the core management team.   To this end, three new partners were added to the ownership group, with Bill Scott appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing; Roger Hutlet becoming Vice President, Finance; and Robert Gilles as Vice President, Manufacturing.

Each of these talented individuals brought with them the skills, judgment, and expertise that would help All Weather Windows move to the next level.

The partnership group was further enhanced in 2005 when Richard Scott, formerly Vice President of Plant Operations, joined the partnership group, taking on the duties of General Manager.

By this time, additional branches had opened in Red Deer, Kelowna, and Langley British Columbia, and the company had its sights set on further expansion.  To facilitate this growth, the decision was made to consolidate all manufacturing and head office staff under one roof.  The result of this bold vision, a new 238,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, opened in Edmonton to much fanfare in January of 1998.  The opening of this plant heralded an era of streamlined production and efficient manufacturing.  A LEAN manufacturing initiative, launched in 2006, further ensured All Weather Windows’ customers received the best quality products with some of the shortest lead times in the industry.

After celebrating 25 years in business in 2003, the company continued to pursue organic growth within the Canadian market.  After opening a branch office in Newmarket Ontario in 2001, the time was right to build a second manufacturing facility.  The new plant, located in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, added over 100,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity and signifies a commitment to the Eastern Canada market place.  This past summer, All Weather Windows became truly coast-to-coast with the opening of an Atlantic Canada branch in Dartmouth Nova Scotia.

As All Weather Windows celebrates their 30th Anniversary, the entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for customer service continues to guide the company.  The partners have fostered a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and remain as committed to their traditional values of honesty and integrity as they were back in 1978.  The loyalty, hard work, and dedication of All Weather Windows’ staff, combined with the commitment of their customers, continues to make them Canada’s window and door provider of choice.

Here at All Weather Windows we have been very fortunate to have enjoyed years of steady success in our operations across Canada. This would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of our employees and partners throughout the country. We are pleased to give back by supporting a variety of charitable and non-profit groups dedicated to enriching the lives of Canadians in the communities where we do business.

In addition to providing funding and research dollars for various charitable causes, our employees are actively involved in improving our communities, helping raise over $200,000 for the Kids with Cancer Society through their annual relay walk.

All Weather Windows is to be the largest and most profitable window and door manufacturer in Canada by producing value products for our customers, being a best practice employer, socially responsible and contributing within our communities.

For 30 years we have committed ourselves to manufacturing the most durable, longest lasting windows and doors in the industry. But we know that our products are more than just frames and glass – they are truly your windows to the world. While our quality components and stringent manufacturing processes keep your windows looking beautiful, our environmental practices help ensure your view remains just as striking.

Whether it’s through our recycling programs or our lean manufacturing initiative, we strive to conserve precious resources and eliminate waste at all levels throughout our organization.

All of our products are designed with conservation in mind. Our energy efficient line up helps you reduce your heating and cooling costs year round, saving you money while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Each of us must do our part to reduce our environmental footprint. Over the past several years, we have instituted numerous projects under the umbrella of our green initiative. Here are some of the highlights:

Cardboard
All cardboard is currently recycled and is used in the production of cellulose fiber
insulation and other consumer goods.

Polyurethane Insulated Door Panels
The cut-outs from all polyurethane insulated door panels are currently recycled for a
variety of insulation applications in the agricultural sector.

PVC
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff and a major investment in infrastructure and cutting edge technology, All Weather Windows is proud to announce that we are now recycling more than 2,000 lbs of PVC each day at our Edmonton manufacturing facility.

In fact, using our state of the art process we're able to recover 100% of the PVC waste created during manufacturing, salvaging high quality, usable plastics that would otherwise be discarded.

The recovered vinyl is then reprocessed into a variety of consumer goods, including PVC deck and fencing products.

It's just one of the ways we're working to reduce waste at all levels throughout our organization.

Lean manufacturing
We utilize Lean Manufacturing processes in our plant to increase the overall efficiency of our manufacturing operations.
• Lean Manufacturing reduces our overall energy consumption which is environmentally responsible.

Heating
The waste heat from our heat ovens (which are used to make sealed glass) is utilized to heat our manufacturing plant, which reduces our overall energy consumption.

Lighting
We are in the process of upgrading all lighting in the manufacturing plant to high efficient lighting in an effort to reduce our overall energy consumption.
All scrap metal is currently recycled.

Wood
We are embracing a number of procedures to reduce the overall wood usage classin our manufacturing facility not directly related to the production of our wood window products.

When you do business with socially responsible companies like All Weather Windows, you’re doing your part to help protect the planet for generations to come.  After all – what good are windows if there is nothing to see?
