How to Measure
- Take all window measurements from inside the home at the innermost points at which the replacement window will rest.
- Always list the WIDTH first, then the HEIGHT. This is the standard method of ordering and will ensure your windows are not built with the sizes reversed.
- Measure the width of the rough opening between the jambs at three locations: top, center and bottom (Fig. 1). Record the smallest dimension.
- Measure the height of the rough opening from the Uppermost point of the sill (just outside the stool) to the top of the window casing (Fig 2). Take three measurements: left side, center and right side. Record the smallest measurement.
Proper selection and installation of the weather barrier and sealant materials is crucial to creating a weathertight seal and water barrier around the perimeter of the new window. In replacement construction, it is very important to take all of the necessary steps to insure the continuity between the existing weather barrier and the new materials. Restoration will include repairing the existing weather barrier and the installation of new flashing as required or needed.
Note: Replacement window conditions vary widely. Always
install in conformance with federal, state and local codes.
Before replacing windows in bedrooms and near doors, check
the prevailing requirements pertaining to egress windows and
safety glass.
How to Install
- Remove blind stop, parting bead and sashes.
- Slide window into opening. Square and plumb where
necessary using shims.
- Apply screws through jamb to hold unit in place. Do
not overtighten.
- Measure and cut sill angle to appropriate height.
- Snap in sill angle to groove.
- Caulk outside of unit and finish exterior as desired.
Two Ways to Order
- Give the opening size and we will deduct 1/4" from the
width and 1/2" from the height,
- Give the exact size of the window that you require.
